The School is in a unique position to develop opportunities for multi-professional and inter-disciplinary learning, teaching and research at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. The School has a number of collaborative partners in the UK and overseas.
Queen Margaret University (QMU) and AKMI Metropolitan College (AMC), Greece, have been working collaboratively for many years. Over time the partnership has grown and AMC is now the University's largest transnational education partner. QMU validates a range of healthcare programmes at AMC as well as programmes from QMU's School of Arts, Social Sciences and Management. Programmes are delivered by AMC staff at AMC's campuses in Athens (Maroussi and Piraeus) and Thessaloniki. Each programme has a named contact person (Academic Link Person (ALP)) at Queen Margaret University who is responsible for academic advice and support in relation to programme development and management. The post-holders will work closely with the ALPs for the healthcare programmes as well as with QMU and AMC module co-ordinators. Programmes are taught and assessed in the Greek language with a small number of student cohorts delivered in the English language for some years of the programme. QMU advises AMC on the compilation of assessment materials and moderates samples of student assessments. Assessment work is moderated at two periods in the academic calendar: Feb/March and June/July. This means that at these periods of time the workload of the post-holders is increased and hence some flexibility in working pattern is desirable. Telephone, video conferencing, skype, email and in-country visits by ALPs are the main communication channels used within the partnership. Whilst the post-holders will be based at QMU, there may be a requirement to undertake short visits of a few days to AMC. It is anticipated that where this occurs, it is likely that this would not be more than one visit in an academic session.
