The role of Lecturer is based in the Division of Dietetics, Nutrition and Biological Sciences, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Radiography within the School of Health Sciences. The role holder will contribute to the planning, reviewing and delivery of learning and teaching for both undergraduate and post graduate programmes in the subject area of Radiography which delivers four-year Honours degree programmes in therapeutic and diagnostic radiography; and Masters degrees (pre-registration and post-registration) in both. As such they must hold either a BSc (Hons) or MSc (pre-reg) in Therapeutic Radiography.
The Division is committed to providing programmes that integrate academic and practical based study to enable health care professionals of the future to have a high intellectual and practical ability. The Division sits within the School of Health Sciences and one of the goals of the School is to manage the operational delivery of high quality learning and teaching, research, knowledge exchange, consultancy and commercialisation activities. The School with its breadth of health care professional programmes delivers Therapeutic and Diagnostic Radiography as well as Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Occupational Therapy, Art Therapies, Dietetics Nutrition and Biological Sciences, Speech and Hearing Science and Nursing, and as such is in a unique position to develop opportunities for multi-professional and inter-disciplinary learning and teaching and research.
Role Purpose
- Contribute to teaching and facilitate learning at undergraduate and post graduate levels
- Contribute to programme development/writing of modules to be integrated within the curricula
- To take collaborative decisions regarding student issues
- Use initiative, experience and knowledge to solve problems
- As an active member of the team, contribute to building team morale and to be supportive and encouraging of others
- Provide regular pastoral and welfare care for students
Principal duties or Key objectives
Deliver teaching, fostering debate and encourage the development of intellectual reasoning and rigour with students within the Subject Area
Participate in curriculum development and design
Participate in other teaching and networks within the institution and externally as required
Provide pastoral care to both undergraduate and postgraduate students
Facilitate and support clinical educators in their role with QMU students
Contribute to the development of learning initiatives (e.g. Virtual learning environment)
Person Specification - Essential
Registration with HCPC as a Therapeutic Radiographer
BSc (Hons) or MSc (pre-reg) in Therapeutic Radiography
Completed or working towards a post graduate award
Experience of teaching/supervising Therapeutic Radiography students on an individual or group basis
Awareness of the professional landscape
Excellent communication skills on an individual and group basis, including facilitation skills
Good IT and presentation skills
Knowledge of current Therapeutic Radiography education
Able to address challenges through problem solving and critical thinking
Adaptable and flexible
Able to work independently
Evidence of team working
Post Graduate degree
Experience of learning and teaching in a Higher Education institution
