Subject/Centre Specific Information
Located within the School of Arts, Social Sciences, and Management, the Psychology subject area comprises a group of staff providing expertise in both teaching and research at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The School offers students a flexible and dynamic environment in which to equip themselves with skills and knowledge essential for forging a career in their chosen area. The School provides a combination of high quality research-informed teaching and a faculty dedicated to continued development and research.
Approximately 200 undergraduate students, in addition we offer a Masters in Research to which staff contribute by supervising Masters level research dissertations. Staff also have the opportunity to supervise PhD students within the Subject Area and across the University and to engage in the work of a research centre most relevant to their area of interest.
Role Purpose
- To enhance the range and quality of teaching at undergraduate and post graduate level
- To contribute to high quality research-informed teaching in social psychology and at least one other core psychology domain
- To carry out efficiently administrative and pastoral duties concomitant with the role of Lecturer
- To act as Personal Academic Tutor as required
- To contribute to the high profile and reputation of the Psychology team through engaging in relevant, high quality research
Principal duties or Key objectives
- Contribute to undergraduate and, where appropriate, postgraduate teaching in social psychology and at least one other area in line with BPS Core Domains
- Engage in the ongoing development of the curricula
- Contribute to new and innovative forms of teaching and learning
- Undertake independent and collaborative research in a domain of psychology that enhances the existing team's research profile
- Provide supervision of student research where appropriate
- Carry out administrative duties, effectively and efficiently, in support of undergraduate programmes and as a functional role across the University as allocated by the Head of Division/Dean of School
Person Specification - Essential
Higher degree in Psychology or related discipline (completed or near-complete)
Relevant teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels
Ability to teach social psychology at all levels as well as at least one of the BPS Undergraduate Core Domains
Developing research profile
The ability to demonstrate drive and enthusiasm
Excellent administrative and organisational skills and expertise Commitment to continuing professional development
